20-minute Tabata workout, my favourite form of cardio

24/10/2020

Need to burn fat? Short of time? Let me introduce you to my 20-minute Tabata workout, my favourite form of cardio.  Tabata, it’s a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and, over the years, it has become my favourite form of cardio due to its effectiveness, all you need its 20 minutes and willingness to give it a good go.   Cardio has been a challenge this year for me due to injury, recently I have been given the green light to start up with more explosive moves. Due to my lack of time, I need to make sure that I am efficient with my workouts, so Tabata its great, you are working at your max intensity, your heart will be pumping faster and metabolism going up.  Results will come in much faster.

How long is a Tabata workout?

A Tabata round is 4 minutes, 8 exercises performed at your max for 20 seconds and 10 seconds rest.  You need to go all out, I mean all out, maximum effort for 20 seconds.  It is important to push yourself as that’s where you see all the benefits. I started with two rounds, right now I am doing 5 rounds, and the last round is more than a struggle.

Can I do a Tabata workout if I’m new to exercise?

It is not the easiest way to start your journey and you should familiarise yourself with the exercises first to avoid injury and start at a lower intensity and work your way up.
